I think the next type of new media will be centered around eyeglasses. I think Virtual and Augmented Reality will be developed to the point that there are able to be implemented in "Smart" eyeglasses. These glasses will be able to project an augmented reality onto what you see to project things like maps and Search. Media platforms like Facebook and Snapchat will be built into it so when you turn on Facebook through your glasses, your friends are able to see what you see. I am not sure how popular it would be but I feel like that would catch on in the beginning in a world where people are trying to share more and more of their lives on social media. It can serve as a way to capture images and videos without having your phone out trying to capture everything on the fly.
I think the idea of capturing images faster and easy recording is something that people would want to buy. But it also reminds me of the Netflix series Black Mirror where they have special technology in their eyes that record everything they see. Of course, all of those episodes are pretty extreme but it is a possibility of the bad things that could come out of it.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree, the future is probably not having any kind of device in your hands (to free them up for other things) and having what you want to see over your eyes. I think the biggest challenge is probably being able to control the inputs of what you want to see, other than being able to just point it at something.
Hey Bueno- I think "smart" eyeglasses would be really cool! It'll definitely be cool to be able to partner with other glasses brands like Cohen's Fashion Optical or Warby Parker as well. Especially with VR and augmented reality becoming really popular nowadays, it can be something to elevate regular glasses.
ReplyDeleteHi Bueno, I would have some concerns about using "Smart" eyeglasses if we wear these as it often as we could, wouldn't it block / distort our vision to the real world? For example, if you want to do a "search" as you described on the Smart eyeglasses, you couldn't do that while you walk or drive, because it will block your vision. As the glasses are to close to your eyes, you see everything through these glasses, and it will block your vision (and interrupt what you're doing) and won't allow you to multi-task.
